Much like Steve Jobs and Jeff Bezos, Forres and Runa McPheat too thought up their dream in the garage of their home. Starting from humble beginnings on Auckland’s North Shore, their vision was to help create a cleaner tomorrow for their three children. And so Filtercorp International Limited was born.
Forres passion for selling and a Runa’s knack for sewing made them a dynamic duo. And with the kids packing the filters, it was all hand’s on deck to get their dream off the ground. As this dream grew, so too did the need for more staff and more space. The first move from the garage was to a small building in Glenfield and then on to a purpose-built facility in Beach Haven. It didn’t stop there! Since then Filtercorp has continued to grow, with offices in Christchurch servicing the South Island and a large factory in Northcote covering the north. Filtercorp also distributes filtration products to customers in over 20 countries, including Australia, China, Canada, the United States and to our 3,500 customers here in New Zealand.
This legacy has now been passed on to their son, Kevin McPheat. Kevin has been with Filtercorp over 25 years and still finds himself bumping into staff who too have been here since the early days. With an average service of more than 11 years per person and over 300 years collective experience in filtration, it’s safe to say we’re the filtration experts.
Many of today’s filtration standards, products and terminologies in New Zealand were once just visions, thought up in the minds of the McPheat’s and brought forth to the world. One example of this being the Snaptex Filter Bags, now an industry name, it was originally a Filtercorp invention in the early 80’s. Today’s factory looks a little different, with the latest and greatest technologies and machinery ensuring only the best of the best leaves the despatch door!
