Waiū Dairy, originally Kawerau Dairy Limited Partnership, operates a dairy processing plant. Powered by renewable geothermal energy, the atmospheric control and ventilation was developed by Filtercorp Technical.
Filtercorp was brought in by design consultants D2 Process Limited, to supply the high-quality clean air required, based on our dairy industry expertise and ability to supply the complete package. Filtercorp’s industry leading Aquavane Louvers were installed to minimise water penetration, with the new patented Filtalon SIS-150 insect filtration system inserted onto the backside of the Louver. Then filter banks were designed and installed using Filtercorp’s innovative Filtalon stainless steel holding frames, along with Filtalon G4 and F7 filtration systems, to incorporate a Twin City stainless steel food grade centrifugal fan for fresh airflow.
Waiū Dairy is a collaborative effort by 12 businesses, eleven of which are local Māori entities and is one third Japanese owned through Cedenco Dairy Ltd. Delivering value to stakeholders through a lens of Māori cultural connectivity, kiwi ingenuity and Japanese perfection supported by operational best practice, innovation & entrepreneurship.
Waiū Dairy’s location allows it to harness the talent and skills of tangata whenua (people of the land) a well-developed transportation & servicing infrastructure, and the treasures from nature of sunshine, water and geothermal energy.
“The name Waiū we interpret as ‘sustenance’” Chairman Richard Jones says. The products Waiū produces are intended to give-sustenance in the form of health & wellbeing. “A main objective was to benefit the Kawerau’s economy, which we have by employing 90% of our staff locally. You could say Kawerau is now partially sustained by milk”.
